Frequently asked questions

1. Functionality & Operation.

The Poopy Nano is a fully automated self-cleaning litter box that eliminates the need for scooping litter. The box uses weight sensors that detect when your cat enters and leaves the box. After a waiting time set by you, a cleaning cycle starts automatically. In this process, the clump-forming cat litter is gently swirled and sieved, keeping clean fill separate and depositing the clumps and excrement in a sealed bin. This automated operation keeps the litter box clean at all times, without the need to scoop manually several times a day. This not only improves ease of use, but also provides a hygienic environment for both cat and owner.

The bin is equipped with advanced weight sensors that detect the presence of a cat. As soon as your cat steps into the bin, this is recorded and when the cat is ready and steps out of the bin, the cleaning timer is started. We recommend setting this to 5 minutes. The Poopy then waits 5 minutes before cleaning begins. This is most optimal because clumps in the cat litter need time to form properly. This ensures that loose pee or semi-soft feces are not immediately dispersed in the litter box, making the cleaning process more effective. It may be that your cat uses the bin several times in small portion of time. We also have a setting for this that ensures that the tray will wait, for example, 30 minutes between turns to clean This is convenient because it keeps the Poopy from turning unnecessarily. When your cat goes several times in quick succession, the grit is collected and sieved clean all at once. This saves energy, reduces wear and tear and extends the life of the box. However, it is not mandatory. You can also set this to 10 or 15 minutes if you still want the Poopy to perform more cleanings.

The average cleaning cycle takes 2 to 3 minutes, depending on the settings. During cleaning, all clumps are carefully removed and placed in the litter box. After the cycle, the litter box is immediately ready for use again.

The Poopy Nano 2 is designed with safety as a priority. If your cat steps back into the bin during the cleaning cycle, the cycle is immediately interrupted. The bin stops and only, once the cat leaves the bin again, it's cleaning will resume. This means there is no risk of your cat getting stuck or being startled by a suddenly moving tray. This makes the Poopy Nano completely safe for both young and older cats.

The frequency with which you should empty the litter bag depends on the number of cats and how often they use the bin. 1 cat → Once every 4-6 days 2 cats → Once every 3-5 days 3 cats → Once every 2-3 days 4 cats → Once every 1-2 days This is a general guideline from Poopy. Every cat is different, so we recommend that you keep a close eye on how quickly the bag fills up. That way you will discover for yourself what is the best time for you to change the bag. The collection container is designed to keep odors and bacteria inside. Removing the waste bag is easy and hygienic, as the clumps are in a separate container that you can easily remove and empty.

The Poopy Nano works best with coarse, clumping cat litter that also contains odor control, for example through activated carbon, as this ensures firm clumps that do not fall apart during cleaning, keeps the drum clean, and effectively masks unpleasant odors in combination with the closed waste compartment. it is also important that the litter is low in dust to prevent contamination and wear of sensors and moving parts, has a high absorbency to quickly absorb and retain urine so that leakage to the base is minimized as much as possible, clumps quickly and powerfully for clean separation without residue or smears, does not stick to the paws to prevent mess in the house and, thanks to the coarser grain size, is less likely to sink through to the base. We are currently seeing good results with various Biokat's variants and with our own improved litter, Poopy V2, which has been specially developed for optimal use in the Poopy Nano .

The Poopy Nano is designed to operate very quietly, with a noise level of approximately 55 dB (comparable to a quiet conversation at a normal speaking distance). This means that neither you nor your cat will be disturbed by the cleaning process, even at night.

Yes! In addition to its automatic operation, the Poopy Nano also has a manual cleaning option. Pressing the button on the control panel immediately starts a cleaning cycle. This is useful if, for example, you want to have the container cleaned extra thoroughly after intensive use.

Yes, as long as the catch basin does not fill up. Many owners run the bin while they are on vacation so that the cat has a clean and odorless environment. If you go away for more than a week, it is advisable to ask a house sitter to empty the catch basin.

There is a special function for that. "Pause between turns." The bin then does not clean immediately after each detection, but waits until a set time has passed. Thus, cleaning is started only after your cat(s) have finished several short visits. You can set how long that pause lasts. This prevents unnecessary frequent running and ensures more sustainable and energy-efficient operation.

2. Cost & Savings

Although the Poopy Nano offers a fully automated solution, there are some recurring costs, just like with any litter box. However, unlike a traditional litter box, you actually save money in the long run because the Poopy Nano uses litter much more efficiently. The main recurring costs are cat litter and waste bags. The Poopy Nano works best with Poopy , but also with coarse clumping cat litter such as bentonite. Because the cleaning system only removes the clumps and leaves the clean litter intact, you use up to 50% less cat litter than with a traditional litter box. This means you don't have to buy new litter as often, which saves money in the long run.

Yes, the Poopy Nano saves money in the long term on cat litter, cleaning products, and time. Although the purchase price is higher than that of a traditional litter box, you will quickly recoup this investment thanks to the efficient litter processing and minimal maintenance. Because the Poopy Nano only removes the soiled parts of the cat litter, you don't need to buy new litter as often. With an old-fashioned litter box, you often throw away too much clean litter when you change the box. This means that with the Poopy Nano , you use up to 50% less litter than with a regular litter box. This not only means less hassle, but also a structural saving on your annual costs. In addition, the Poopy Nano reduces the need for extra cleaning products, odor removers, and special sprays. Because the cleaning system effectively reduces unpleasant odors, you don't have to spend money on odor-absorbing products. With an old-fashioned litter box, many people use air fresheners or special odor-absorbing mats to mask unpleasant odors, but with the Poopy Nano , that is simply not necessary. In addition to financial savings, you also save valuable time. Whereas a regular litter box requires dozens of hours of cleaning and scooping each year, the Poopy Nano takes this task off your hands completely. This is especially valuable for people with busy lifestyles, families, or households with multiple cats. Thanks to the combination of more efficient use of cat litter, lower maintenance costs, and time savings, the Poopy Nano pays for itself twice over. This makes it not only a smart investment for your cat, but also for your wallet.

For many cat owners, the Poopy Nano is the best investment they can make (according to thousands of our customers). Unlike a traditional litter box, which needs to be cleaned manually every day, the Poopy Nano does all the work for you. This not only saves time and effort, but also ensures that your cat always has a clean litter box at its disposal. At first glance, a traditional litter box may seem cheaper, but it comes with many hidden costs. You use more litter, have to regularly purchase new cleaning products, and are constantly removing waste manually. With the Poopy Nano , all of this is automated, saving you money and making your life easier. In addition, the Poopy Nano offers many advantages that a regular litter box simply does not have. The odor control system prevents unpleasant smells from entering your home, while the smart cleaning system ensures that your cat always has a fresh and hygienic place to do its business. For households with multiple cats, the Poopy Nano is an even greater solution, because it cleans itself automatically and is ready for the next use without you having to do anything. Once people switch to the Poopy Nano , they can't imagine ever going back to a traditional litter box. The combination of hygiene, convenience, cost savings, and time savings makes it the perfect choice for anyone who wants the best for both themselves and their cat. The Poopy Nano isn't just any self-cleaning litter box, it's the future of cat care.

3. Hygiene & Odor Control

The Poopy Nano is designed to minimize odors, but no litter box is completely odorless. Thanks to the sealed collection tray, unpleasant odors are greatly reduced and remain largely contained. Unlike a traditional litter box, where urine and feces remain in the box longer and odors can spread throughout the room, the Poopy Nano removes waste immediately after use. This prevents strong odors from accumulating and keeps the litter box much fresher than a standard model. Although odor control is very effective, extreme odors (e.g., medical problems or strong-smelling food) may still be slightly present while opening the sump to empty it. However, this does not compare to the constant odor nuisance that a traditional litter box can cause.

The Poopy Nano is significantly more effective at odor control than a manually maintained litter box, simply because waste is removed much more quickly. With a traditional litter box, urine continues to soak into the litter and feces are often only removed after hours or even days, allowing odors to continue to spread. In addition, the closed collection tray ensures that feces are not in direct contact with the ambient air, as is the case with an open litter box. This means that with the Poopy Nano , you are less likely to be bothered by unpleasant odors in your home and less dependent on odor eliminators or air fresheners. Another important advantage is that you don't come into direct contact with waste. When scooping manually, you inevitably smell cat urine and feces, whereas with the Poopy Nano , everything is neatly stored in a sealed compartment, so you only come into brief contact with the smell when emptying the collection tray.

No, the Poopy Nano does almost all the work for you, but a little maintenance helps to keep odor control optimal. It is advisable to empty the collection tray regularly. For one cat, this is usually every 4-6 days, and slightly more often for multiple cats. In addition, it helps to clean the inside of the litter box once a month with a damp cloth. This prevents residual filling or ammonia build-up, which can cause odor. Although the litter box remains largely odor-free, a good hygiene routine is still important to keep the system in top condition.

4. Maintenance & Sustainability

The Poopy Nano is designed to require as little maintenance as possible. Unlike a traditional litter box, which you have to scoop out daily and completely clean weekly, the Poopy Nano does almost all the work for you. The only regular maintenance required is replacing the waste bag and occasionally giving it a quick clean. Replacing the bag is simple. You open the compartment, remove the full garbage bag and insert a new one. In addition, it is advisable to clean the inside of the Poopy Nano once a month with a damp cloth and a mild cleaning agent. This prevents the accumulation of dust, filling, or residue that could cause odors. Compared to a regular litter box, which you have to scoop out manually several times a day, the Poopy Nano is virtually maintenance-free.

The Poopy Nano is designed with durability and quality in mind. Unlike cheaper self-cleaning litter boxes, which often show signs of wear and tear within a few months, the Poopy Nano is made from high-quality, robust materials that can withstand daily use. The sturdy mechanism is built to remain reliable over the long term, and the moving parts have been tested for thousands of cleaning cycles. The big advantage of the Poopy Nano is that it does not contain any fragile or unnecessary electronic components that can quickly break down, as is the case with some more expensive models.

The Poopy Nano is designed to operate reliably and without malfunction. Less expensive self-cleaning litter boxes often suffer from sensors that do not respond properly, mechanical malfunctions, or clogged fillers, but the Poopy Nano system has been thoroughly tested and optimized to prevent this. Many malfunctions in other brands are caused by incorrect cat litter. Because the Poopy Nano is specially designed for coarse, clumping cat litter such as bentonite or tofu with 1.5 cm long sticks, the cleaning mechanism works without any problems as long as the correct litter is used. If a problem does occur, such as a stuck lump or a sensor that gives an error message, it can often be easily solved by resetting or cleaning the container. In almost all cases, the Poopy Nano will continue to function without malfunctioning, provided it is used correctly and maintained regularly.

Yes, various parts of the Poopy Nano are available separately, so you don't have to buy a whole new litter box if something wears out or gets damaged. The drum and base parts can be replaced if necessary. Because the Poopy Nano is built with durable materials and a simple, effective mechanism, wear and tear is minimal and the litter box remains reliable for a long time. For users who want to enjoy their Poopy Nano for an extra long time, it is recommended to clean the inside periodically. This extends the lifespan and ensures that the litter box continues to function optimally.

5. Suitability for Cats

The Poopy Nano is designed to be suitable for almost all cat breeds and sizes. The spacious interior offers enough room for both small and medium-sized cats. The Poopy Nano is perfectly suited for most cat breeds, such as European Shorthairs, Siamese, British Shorthairs, and Bengals. For larger breeds, such as the Maine Coon or Norwegian Forest Cat, whether they fit comfortably in the box may vary from cat to cat. Although the Poopy Nano 2 is roomy, some extremely large cats may prefer an open box with even more room to move around. In practice, however, most large cats get used to the Poopy Nano 2 without any problems, especially since it is always clean and fresh. The opening of the Poopy Nano is designed so that cats can easily get in and out. The height is also easy to negotiate for older cats and cats with joint problems.

Most cats get used to the Poopy Nano immediately or within a few days, mainly because it is always clean. Cats naturally prefer a clean and fresh litter box, and because the Poopy Nano removes waste immediately, cats often accept it more quickly than a traditional litter box that occasionally remains dirty. For some cats, especially shy or fearful cats, it may take some time for them to become completely comfortable with the Poopy Nano 2. This is because the box cleans automatically, which can be an unfamiliar sound at first. Fortunately, the Poopy Nano 2 is very quiet, so cats usually get used to it quickly. To make the transition smooth, you can temporarily disable the automatic cleaning in the beginning and manually activate it when your cat is not around. This will help your cat learn the box without any sudden movements or noises. After a few days, you can turn on the automatic mode, and most cats will have no more trouble with it. For cats that are naturally more curious and adventurous, the Poopy Nano 2 is often an immediate success. They quickly get used to the new box and especially appreciate the constant freshness. Kittens get used to Poopy Nano 2 very quickly.

Yes, the Poopy Nano 2 is completely safe for both kittens and older cats. The design takes into account the needs of different ages, so both young and older cats can use the box comfortably. For kittens younger than 6 months, it is recommended that you temporarily turn off the automatic cleaning until they get used to the bin. This prevents them from being startled by the movement, although the sensors always prevent the tray from cleaning while a cat is inside. Once a kitten is bigger and more confident, the automatic function can be turned on. With kittens, there is a risk that they will consume cat litter. Because of this, using clumping cat litter is not recommended when you have a kitten. A kitten may officially leave the litter at 12 weeks (sometimes you see 7 weeks mentioned, but almost all vets and breeders recommend 12-13 weeks). By that age your kitten is big and strong enough, has learned the most important social skills and is used to solid food and the litter box. From then on, it is also appropriate to use the Poopy that only works with clumping grit. The reason that young kittens (younger than 12 weeks) are not recommended to use clumping grit is because they can still be curious and sometimes lick or even eat grit. This can then form clumps in their stomachs. For kittens 12 weeks of age or older, this is virtually non-existent. In addition, the Poopy ensures that the lumps are automatically scooped away, further minimizing the chance of your kitten coming into contact with them or eating them. This way you combine safety with hygiene and convenience. Important to stress though, the Poopy can take a lot out of your hands, but of course we can never be liable for individual cat behavior. Every cat is unique and some kittens are simply more curious than others. The Poopy Nano is ideal for older cats because it is always clean. Older cats can become more particular about hygiene, and a traditional litter box that is not cleaned immediately can cause them to relieve themselves elsewhere in the house. Thanks to the Poopy Nano , older cats always have a clean place to go, which reduces the chance of accidents outside the litter box. In addition, the step height is low enough for cats with osteoarthritis or joint problems so that they can get in and out of the tray without difficulty.

Some cats, especially shyer types, may be suspicious of a moving litter box at first. This is normal because cats are sensitive to new sounds and moving objects in their environment. If you find that your cat is hesitant, you can introduce him in a calm and gradual way. 1. First, leave the box turned off for a few days so your cat can smell it and get used to it without movements or noises. 2. Turn off automatic cleaning temporarily and start cleaning manually when your cat is not around. 3. Establish a positive association by placing some cat treats or toys near the box. 4. After a few days, switch to automatic mode and let your cat get used at his own pace. Most cats get used to Poopy Nano immediately. Almost all cats become completely accustomed to Poopy Nano within a few days to a week. Some curious cats even find it interesting to watch the cleaning process!

6. Installation & Ease of Use.

Yes, the Poopy Nano is designed with ease of use in mind and can be ready to use in minutes. You don't need to follow complicated steps or have technical knowledge. All you have to do is unpack the bin, place it in the desired location, plug it into a power outlet, and fill it with clumping cat litter. The bin is delivered ready to use, so no assembly is required. All settings are preconfigured, including the automatic cleaning timer and safety sensors. All you have to do is press the on button, and the Poopy Nano does the rest. However, we do recommend adjusting the settings to suit your own needs. Replacing the litter bag is also easy and hygienic, you open the hatch at the top of the litter box, remove the litter bag and insert a new one. The simplicity of installation is one of the reasons why so many cat owners are enthusiastic about the Poopy Nano . You set it down and it does its job—no fuss.

The Poopy Nano can basically be placed anywhere where there is a power outlet nearby and where the space is dry and well ventilated. Many users place the bin in the hallway, utility room, or living room because it is so quiet that it does not bother you. The only thing to keep in mind is that at least 10 cm of free space around the litter box is recommended so that the sensors can function properly. The surface should be stable and flat. Preferably, do not place the Poopy Nano in a location where it will be exposed to moisture (such as a shower) or where it is extremely cold or hot, as this may affect the sensors or electronics. Thanks to its compact, stylish design, the Poopy Nano fits easily into almost any interior—and because it effectively contains odors, you don't have to worry about it being disruptive in a living space.

The Poopy Nano operates on mains power and comes with a power adapter. It therefore requires a power outlet to function. The advantage of an AC connection is that the litter box is always ready to go, without having to change batteries or recharge. Power consumption is very low because the litter box consumes energy only during short cleaning cycles, which average only a few minutes a day. If the power goes out, it won't affect your cat's safety. The Poopy Nano automatically stops cleaning as soon as it detects no power and resumes operation as soon as power is restored.

Most cats get used to the Poopy Nano surprisingly quickly. Cats are naturally hygienic and have a strong preference for a clean litter box. Because the Poopy Nano cleans itself automatically and is therefore always fresh, many cats find it more pleasant than their old litter box. To ensure a smooth transition, you can follow a few simple steps. Leave the Poopy Nano next to the old litter box for a few days so your cat can smell it and get used to the new object. You can also transfer some used litter from the old box to the Poopy Nano so that the smell feels familiar. If you notice that your cat is a little hesitant, temporarily switch off the automatic cleaning function. Only reactivate it once your cat has used the litter box a few times without any problems. Because the Poopy Nano is quiet, most cats are not bothered by the sound or movement, especially if they are allowed to get used to it gradually. For curious cats, the switch is often successful right away. And for cautious cats, a little patience is usually all it takes - within a few days, they are using the box as if it were never different.

That's entirely up to you. The Poopy Nano can function completely independently or be linked to an app—whichever you prefer. If you just want the litter box to do its job without having to worry about anything, the Poopy Nano works perfectly without an app or Wi-Fi. All essential functions, such as automatic cleaning and sensor detection, are already set up in the device itself. Plug it in, fill it up, and the box does the rest. Would you rather monitor, adjust settings, or receive notifications via the app? Then you can easily connect the Poopy Nano to Wi-Fi and activate the app. This way, you always have insight into its use and can start cleaning remotely. Whether you love technology or prefer as little hassle as possible, the Poopy Nano adapts to your preferences. You decide how smart you want to use it.

Yes, you can. The Poopy Nano has an option to disable the automatic cleaning function or activate it manually. This is especially useful if your cat still needs to get used to the litter box or if you want temporary full control over when the litter box cleans. Manual mode is easily activated via a button on the control panel. When you are ready to switch back to automatic cleaning, you switch it back on just as easily. This flexibility is ideal for cats who are more cautious or quicker to be impressed by new devices. You set the pace.

Yes, the Poopy Nano is light and compact enough to move around, but sturdy enough to stay in place during use. If you want to move the bin to another room, simply unplug it, pick it up, and place it in its new location. Be sure to always place it on a flat surface and close to an electrical outlet. It is also important to check again that the environment is suitable - dry, well ventilated and not in direct sunlight. The fact that you can easily move the bin without complicated installation also makes it suitable for people who change rooms frequently - for example, during a move or redecoration.

The Poopy Nano has a minimalist and intuitive control panel with two buttons and two status lights. The controls are designed so that you can fully control the litter box without an app or complicated menu—everything you need is on the front. The two buttons are the cleaning button and the wifi button. With the cleaning button you manually start a cleaning cycle. Use the wifi button to connect the litter box to your wifi network to link it to the app. for updates or additional features. Above these buttons are two bright LED lights that display the status of the litter box. White light above the cleaning button. The litter box is in idle mode and ready for use. Red light above the cleaning button means that pressure is applied to the Poopy (when the cat is in the bin) or that the bin has a malfunction, such as if the cleaning process has been interrupted. Blue light above the wifi button means the Poopy is successfully connected to wifi. This combination of buttons and light signals makes it very easy to check the status of the bin at a glance. No screens, no menus, no fuss - just clear signals that tell you immediately if everything is functioning properly or if something needs attention. The system is deliberately designed to provide maximum ease of use and minimum confusion. Even if you've never read a manual, you can tell within seconds if the bin is ready, connected to wifi, or needs some attention.

The Poopy Nano is designed for households with multiple cats and performs well in practice. For most users, one Poopy works Poopy for two to three cats. In this configuration, the system remains reliable, hygienic, and comfortable for the cats, without increasing maintenance excessively. If you have more than three cats, one Poopy can Poopy function, but there are a few realistic considerations to take into account. The waste bag will fill up faster and therefore need to be emptied more often. In addition, the litter box will be used more intensively, which means that periodic maintenance, such as cleaning and checking, will be needed more often. Larger or heavier cats in a busy household may also experience less peace and space in the drum. In short, one Poopy Nano is ideal for 1 to 3 cats. If you have 4 or more cats, we recommend Poopy an additional Poopy . This will provide more comfort for the cats, less maintenance for you, and a longer lifespan for the device.

When you unplug the Poopy Nano from the power outlet, the system shuts down completely. The bin stops cleaning and all functions are paused. As soon as you plug it back in, the Poopy Nano automatically restores its previous settings and is immediately ready for use. So you don't need to reset it or start it up manually. This makes the system not only user-friendly, but also reliable in case of power outages or during relocation.

The Poopy Nano 2 is designed to work with a 2.4 GHz wifi network, which is the most common type in households. The litter box is not compatible with 5 GHz wifi. If you have a dual-band router (with both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), make sure you select the correct network, usually the wifi network without "5G" in the name. The Poopy Nano 2 also works fine without wifi. All basic functions, such as automatic cleaning, manual cleaning and status notifications via the lights, continue to function as usual. Wifi is optional, and is only used for additional functionalities such as receiving firmware updates or linking to the Poopy (if available). What does not work is connecting via a mobile hotspot or your phone's 5G network. The Poopy Nano requires a stable and constant connection to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network in your home. A temporary hotspot is not suitable for this, as it does not provide a reliable connection and often disconnects automatically after a short time. If you have Wi-Fi at home, connecting is very easy via the Wi-Fi button on the box. Don't have Wi-Fi? No problem – the box will continue to do its job, just without smart functions.

Yes, you can! As long as the Poopy Nano is connected to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network at home, you can control it anywhere in the world using the app. This means you don't need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network yourself. Whether you're at work, away for the weekend, or even on vacation, you can always check in and adjust settings. Note! Only during the first installation, your phone must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the Poopy. After that, everything works completely remotely.

Yes, you can. The Poopy Nano can be used on multiple phones at the same time, but this only works if you log in to both devices with the same Tuya account. The Poopy to one account and cannot be operated by two separate accounts at the same time. Practical example Do you want both you and your partner to be able to control the Poopy through the app? Then you both log in with the same login credentials. That way you both have full access to all of the Poopy's features and notifications.
