Frequently asked questions

1. Functionality & Operation.

The Poopy Nano 2 is a fully automated self-cleaning litter box that eliminates the need to scoop cat litter. The litter box works with weight sensors that detect when your cat enters and leaves the litter box. After a waiting time set by you, a cleaning cycle starts automatically. In this process, the clump-forming cat litter is gently swirled and sieved, keeping clean fill separate and depositing the clumps and excrement in a sealed bin. This automated operation keeps the litter box clean at all times, without the need to scoop manually several times a day. This not only improves ease of use, but also provides a hygienic environment for both cat and owner.

The bin is equipped with advanced weight sensors that detect the presence of a cat. As soon as your cat steps into the bin, this is recorded and when the cat is ready and steps out of the bin, the cleaning timer is started. We recommend setting this to 5 minutes. The Poopy then waits 5 minutes before cleaning begins. This is most optimal because clumps in the cat litter need time to form properly. This ensures that loose pee or semi-soft feces are not immediately dispersed in the litter box, making the cleaning process more effective. It may be that your cat uses the bin several times in small portion of time. We also have a setting for this that ensures that the tray will wait, for example, 30 minutes between turns to clean This is convenient because it keeps the Poopy from turning unnecessarily. When your cat goes several times in quick succession, the grit is collected and sieved clean all at once. This saves energy, reduces wear and tear and extends the life of the box. However, it is not mandatory. You can also set this to 10 or 15 minutes if you still want the Poopy to perform more cleanings.

The average cleaning cycle takes 2 to 3 minutes, depending on the settings. During cleaning, all clumps are carefully removed and placed in the litter box. After the cycle, the litter box is immediately ready for use again.

The Poopy Nano 2 is designed with safety as a priority. If your cat steps back into the bin during the cleaning cycle, the cycle is immediately interrupted. The bin stops and only, once the cat leaves the bin again, it's cleaning will resume. As a result, there is no risk of your cat getting stuck or startled by a sudden moving tray. This makes the Poopy Nano 2 completely safe for both young and older cats.

The frequency with which you should empty the litter bag depends on the number of cats and how often they use the bin. 1 cat → Once every 4-6 days 2 cats → Once every 3-5 days 3 cats → Once every 2-3 days 4 cats → Once every 1-2 days This is a general guideline from Poopy. Every cat is different, so we recommend that you keep a close eye on how quickly the bag fills up. That way you will discover for yourself what is the best time for you to change the bag. The collection container is designed to keep odors and bacteria inside. Removing the waste bag is easy and hygienic, as the clumps are in a separate container that you can easily remove and empty.

The Poopy Nano 2 works best with Poopy Grit (80% tofu and 20% cassava). This filling has been extensively tested and guarantees optimal performance. After each cleaning cycle, the leveling is perfect and unpleasant odors are effectively removed thanks to the active carbon in the tofu of Poopy Grit. In addition, the Poopy can also be used with coarse, clumping filling such as bentonite. This absorbs urine directly and forms solid lumps that can be processed well by the cleaning system. Keep in mind, however, that bentonite alone does not guarantee perfect operation of the Poopy . If you mix tofu with bentonite, you best mimic the properties of Poopy Grit. Fillings such as silica gel, wood pellets or non-clumping fillings are not recommended because they can interfere with the mechanism or cause urine to accumulate in the bin, which can cause odors.

The Poopy Nano 2 is designed to operate very quietly with a noise level of about than 55 dB (comparable to a quiet conversation at normal speaking distance). This means that neither you nor your cat will be bothered by the cleaning process, even at night.

Yes! In addition to automatic operation, the Poopy Nano 2 also has a manual cleaning option. Pressing the button on the control panel immediately starts a cleaning cycle. This is useful if, for example, you want to have the bin cleaned extra after intensive use.

Yes, as long as the catch basin does not fill up. Many owners run the bin while they are on vacation so that the cat has a clean and odorless environment. If you go away for more than a week, it is advisable to ask a house sitter to empty the catch basin.

There is a special function for that. "Pause between turns." The bin then does not clean immediately after each detection, but waits until a set time has passed. Thus, cleaning is started only after your cat(s) have finished several short visits. You can set how long that pause lasts. This prevents unnecessary frequent running and ensures more sustainable and energy-efficient operation.

2. Cost & Savings

Although the Poopy Nano 2 offers a fully automated solution, there are some recurring costs, just like any litter box. Unlike a traditional litter box, however, you'll actually save money in the long run because the Poopy Nano 2 uses cat litter much more efficiently. The main recurring costs are cat litter and litter bags. The Poopy Nano 2 works best with Poopy Grit but also coarse clumping cat litter such as bentonite. Because the cleaning system removes only the clumps and leaves the clean litter intact, you use up to 50% less cat litter than with a traditional litter box. This means you don't have to buy new litter as often, which is cost-saving in the long run.

Yes, the Poopy Nano 2 saves money in the long run on cat litter, cleaning products and time. Although the purchase price is higher than that of an old-fashioned litter box, you'll quickly recoup this investment through efficient filling and minimal maintenance. Because the Poopy Nano 2 removes only the dirty parts of the cat litter, you need to buy new litter much less often. With an old-fashioned litter box, you often throw away too much clean litter when you change the box. This means that the Poopy Nano 2 uses up to 50% less litter than a regular litter box. This not only means less hassle, but also structural savings on your annual costs. In addition, the Poopy Nano 2 reduces the need for additional cleaners, odor eliminators and special sprays. Because the cleaning system effectively reduces unpleasant odors, you don't have to spend money on odor-absorbing products. With an old-fashioned litter box, many people use air fresheners or special odor-absorbing mats to hide foul odors, but with the Poopy Nano 2, this is simply not necessary. In addition to financial savings, above all you save precious time. Whereas with a regular litter box you spend dozens of hours a year cleaning and scooping, the Poopy Nano 2 takes this task completely out of your hands. This is especially valuable for people with busy lifestyles, families or households with multiple cats. Thus, through the combination of more efficient use of cat litter, lower maintenance costs and time savings, the Poopy Nano 2 pays for itself in both ways. This makes it not only a smart investment for your cat, but also for your wallet.

For many cat owners, the Poopy Nano 2 is the best investment they can make (according to thousands of our customers). Unlike a traditional litter box, which must be manually cleaned daily, the Poopy Nano 2 takes all the work out of your cat's hands. This not only saves time and effort, but also ensures that your cat always has a clean litter box at their disposal. A traditional litter box may seem cheaper at first glance, but it comes with many hidden costs. You consume more cat litter, have to buy new cleaning products regularly and are constantly manually removing litter. With the Poopy Nano 2, this is all automated, so you spend less money and experience more convenience. In addition, the Poopy Nano 2 offers many advantages that an ordinary litter box simply does not have. The odor control system prevents foul odors from entering your home, while the smart cleaning system ensures that your cat always has a fresh and hygienic place to do his business. For households with multiple cats, the Poopy Nano 2 is an even greater godsend, as it cleans itself automatically and is ready for the next use without you having to do anything about it. People who switch to the Poopy Nano 2 once can't imagine ever going back to a traditional litter box. The combination of hygiene, convenience, cost savings and time savings makes it the perfect choice for anyone who wants the best for both themselves and their cat. The Poopy Nano 2 is not just a self-cleaning litter box, it is the future of cat care.

3. Hygiene & Odor Control

The Poopy Nano 2 is designed to keep odors to a minimum, but no litter box is completely odorless. Thanks to the sealed collection tray, foul odors are greatly reduced and remain largely contained. Unlike a traditional litter box, where urine and feces remain longer and odors can spread through the room, the Poopy Nano 2 removes waste immediately after use. This prevents strong odors from building up and keeps the litter box much fresher than a standard model. Although odor control is very effective, extreme odors (e.g., medical problems or strong-smelling food) may still be slightly present while opening the sump to empty it. However, this does not compare to the constant odor nuisance that a traditional litter box can cause.

The Poopy Nano 2 is significantly more effective in odor control than a manually maintained litter box, simply because waste is removed much faster. With a traditional litter box, urine continues to soak into the filling and feces are often removed only after hours or even days, causing odors to continue to spread. In addition, the sealed collection tray ensures that feces are not in direct contact with the ambient air, as with an open litter box. This means that with the Poopy Nano 2, you are less likely to have unpleasant odors in your home and less dependent on odor eliminators or air fresheners. Another important advantage is that you don't come into direct contact with waste. With manual scooping, you inevitably smell the odor of cat urine and feces, whereas with the Poopy Nano 2, everything is neatly stored in a sealed compartment, so you only briefly come into contact with the odor when emptying the collection tray.

No, the Poopy Nano 2 takes almost all the work off your hands, but a small amount of maintenance helps to keep odor control at optimal levels. It is recommended that you empty the trap regularly. For one cat usually every 4-6 days, and with multiple cats a little more often. In addition, it helps to clean the inside of the litter box once a month with a damp cloth. This prevents residual filling or ammonia build-up, which can cause odor. Although the litter box remains largely odor-free, a good hygiene routine is still important to keep the system in top condition.

4. Maintenance & Sustainability

The Poopy Nano 2 is designed to require as little maintenance as possible. Unlike a traditional litter box, which you have to scoop out daily and change completely weekly, the Poopy Nano 2 takes almost all the work out of your hands. The only regular maintenance required is changing the litter bag and a quick cleaning once in a while. Replacing the bag is simple. You open the compartment, remove the full garbage bag and insert a new one. In addition, it is recommended to clean the inside of the Poopy Nano 2 once a month with a damp cloth and a mild detergent. This prevents accumulation of dust, stuffing or residue that could potentially cause odor. Thus, compared to a regular litter box, which you have to manually scoop out several times a day, the Poopy Nano 2 is almost maintenance-free.

The Poopy Nano 2 is designed with durability and quality in mind. Unlike cheaper self-cleaning litter boxes, which often show signs of wear within a few months, the Poopy Nano 2 is made of high-quality, sturdy materials that can withstand daily use. The sturdy mechanism is built to remain reliable for long periods of time, and the moving parts have been tested for thousands of cleaning cycles. The great advantage of the Poopy Nano 2 is that it contains no fragile or redundant electronic components that can fail quickly, as some more expensive models do.

The Poopy Nano 2 is designed to operate trouble-free and reliably. Cheaper self-cleaning litter boxes often suffer from sensors that don't respond properly, mechanical failures or filling that gets stuck, but with the Poopy Nano 2, the system has been thoroughly tested and optimized to prevent this from happening. Many failures with other brands are caused by incorrect cat litter. Because the Poopy Nano 2 is specially designed for coarse, lumpy cat litter such as bentonite or tofu with 1.5cm long sticks, the cleaning mechanism works without problems as long as the correct litter is used. If a problem does occur, such as a stuck clot or a sensor giving an error message, it is often easily resolved by a quick reset or cleaning of the container. In almost all cases, the Poopy Nano 2 will continue to function without malfunction if used properly and maintained regularly.

Yes, several parts of the Poopy Nano 2 are available separately, so you don't have to buy a whole new litter box right away if something gets worn or damaged. The drum and base parts can be replaced as needed. Because the Poopy Nano 2 is built with durable materials and a simple, effective mechanism, wear and tear is minimal and the litter box remains reliable for a long time. For users who want to enjoy their Poopy Nano 2 for an extra long time, it is recommended to periodically clean the inside. This extends the life of the litter box and ensures that it continues to function optimally.

5. Suitability for Cats

The Poopy Nano 2 is designed to accommodate almost all cat breeds and sizes. Its spacious interior provides ample space for both small and medium-sized cats. For most cat breeds, such as European Shorthairs, Siamese, British Shorthairs and Bengals, the Poopy Nano 2 is a perfect fit. For larger breeds, such as the Maine Coon or Norwegian Forest Cat, whether they fit comfortably in the box may vary from cat to cat. Although the Poopy Nano 2 is roomy, some extremely large cats may prefer an open box with even more room to move around. In practice, however, most large cats get used to the Poopy Nano 2 without any problems, especially since it is always clean and fresh. The opening of the Poopy Nano 2 is designed to allow cats to get in and out easily. The height is also good for older cats and cats with joint problems.

Most cats get used to the Poopy Nano 2 immediately to a few days, especially since it is always clean. Cats naturally prefer a clean and fresh litter box, and because the Poopy Nano 2 removes waste immediately, cats often accept it more quickly than a traditional litter box that remains dirty from time to time. For some cats, especially shy or fearful cats, it may take some time for them to become completely comfortable with the Poopy Nano 2. This is because the box cleans automatically, which can be an unfamiliar sound at first. Fortunately, the Poopy Nano 2 is very quiet, so cats usually get used to it quickly. To make the transition smooth, you can temporarily disable the automatic cleaning in the beginning and manually activate it when your cat is not around. This will help your cat learn the box without any sudden movements or noises. After a few days, you can turn on the automatic mode, and most cats will have no more trouble with it. For cats that are naturally more curious and adventurous, the Poopy Nano 2 is often an immediate success. They quickly get used to the new box and especially appreciate the constant freshness. Kittens get used to Poopy Nano 2 very quickly.

Yes, the Poopy Nano 2 is completely safe for both kittens and older cats. The design takes into account the needs of different ages, so both young and older cats can use the box comfortably. For kittens younger than 6 months, it is recommended that you temporarily turn off the automatic cleaning until they get used to the bin. This prevents them from being startled by the movement, although the sensors always prevent the tray from cleaning while a cat is inside. Once a kitten is bigger and more confident, the automatic function can be turned on. With kittens, there is a risk that they will consume cat litter. Because of this, using clumping cat litter is not recommended when you have a kitten. A kitten may officially leave the litter at 12 weeks (sometimes you see 7 weeks mentioned, but almost all vets and breeders recommend 12-13 weeks). By that age your kitten is big and strong enough, has learned the most important social skills and is used to solid food and the litter box. From then on, it is also appropriate to use the Poopy that only works with clumping grit. The reason that young kittens (younger than 12 weeks) are not recommended to use clumping grit is because they can still be curious and sometimes lick or even eat grit. This can then form clumps in their stomachs. For kittens 12 weeks of age or older, this is virtually non-existent. In addition, the Poopy ensures that the lumps are automatically scooped away, further minimizing the chance of your kitten coming into contact with them or eating them. This way you combine safety with hygiene and convenience. Important to stress though, the Poopy can take a lot out of your hands, but of course we can never be liable for individual cat behavior. Every cat is unique and some kittens are simply more curious than others. For older cats, the Poopy Nano 2 is ideal because it is always clean. Older cats can become pickier when it comes to hygiene, and a traditional litter box that is not cleaned immediately can be a reason for them to do their business elsewhere in the house. Thanks to the Poopy Nano 2, older cats always have a clean spot, which reduces the chance of accidents outside the litter box. In addition, the step height is low enough for cats with osteoarthritis or joint problems so that they can get in and out of the tray without difficulty.

Some cats, especially shyer types, may be suspicious of a moving litter box at first. This is normal because cats are sensitive to new sounds and moving objects in their environment. If you find that your cat is hesitant, you can introduce him in a calm and gradual way. 1. First, leave the box turned off for a few days so your cat can smell it and get used to it without movements or noises. 2. Turn off automatic cleaning temporarily and start cleaning manually when your cat is not around. 3. Establish a positive association by placing some cat treats or toys near the box. 4. After a few days, switch to automatic mode and let your cat get used at his own pace. Most cats get used to Poopy Nano 2 right away. Almost all cats become completely accustomed to the Poopy Nano 2 within a few days to a week. Some curious cats even find it interesting to watch the cleaning!

6. Installation & Ease of Use.

Yes, the Poopy Nano 2 is designed with ease of use in mind and can be up and running within minutes. You don't need to follow any complicated steps or have technical knowledge. All you have to do is unpack the bin, place it in the desired location, plug it into an outlet and fill it with clumping cat litter. The bin is delivered ready to use, so no assembly is required. All settings are pre-configured, including the automatic cleaning timer and safety sensors. So all you have to do is press the on button, and the Poopy Nano 2 does the rest. However, we do recommend adjusting the settings to your own needs. Replacing the litter bag is also easy and hygienic, you open the hatch at the top of the litter box, remove the litter bag and insert a new one. The simplicity of installation is one of the reasons why so many cat owners rave about the Poopy Nano 2, you put it down and it does its job - with no fuss.

The Poopy Nano 2 can be placed basically anywhere where there is an electrical outlet nearby and where the room is dry and well ventilated. Many users place the bin in the hallway, utility room or in the living room, because it is so quiet that it does not bother you. The only thing to keep in mind is that at least 10 cm of free space around the litter box is recommended so that the sensors can function properly. The surface should be stable and flat. Preferably do not put the Poopy Nano 2 in a place where it is exposed to moisture (such as a shower) or where it is extremely cold or hot, as this may affect the sensors or electronics. With its compact, stylish design, the Poopy Nano 2 fits easily into almost any interior - and because it keeps odor in well, you don't have to worry about it being disruptive in a living space.

The Poopy Nano 2 operates via AC power and comes with a power adapter. Thus, it needs an electrical outlet to function. The advantage of an AC connection is that the litter box is always ready to go, without having to change batteries or recharge. Power consumption is very low because the litter box consumes energy only during short cleaning cycles, which average only a few minutes a day. Should the power go out, it's not a problem for your cat's safety. The Poopy Nano 2 automatically stops cleaning as soon as it no longer detects power and resumes operation as soon as power returns.

Most cats get used to the Poopy Nano 2 surprisingly quickly. Cats are naturally hygienic and have a strong preference for a clean litter box. Because the Poopy Nano 2 cleans itself automatically and is therefore always fresh, many cats like it better than their old litter box. To ensure a smooth transition, follow a few simple steps. Leave the Poopy Nano 2 next to the old litter box for a few days, so your cat can smell it and get used to the new object. You can also transfer some used cat litter from the old litter box into the Poopy Nano 2 so that the smell feels familiar. If you notice that your cat is a bit hesitant, temporarily turn off automatic cleaning. Activate it again only after your cat has used the tray a few times without a problem. Because the Poopy Nano 2 operates quietly, most cats are not impressed by the sound or motion, especially if they get used to it gradually. For curious cats, the switch is often successful right away. And for cautious cats, a little patience is usually all it takes - within a few days, they are using the box as if it were never different.

That's entirely up to you. The Poopy Nano 2 can either function completely stand-alone or be paired with an app - depending on what you are comfortable with. If you just want the litter box to do its job without looking at anything, the Poopy Nano 2 works perfectly without an app or wifi. All the essential functions, such as automatic cleaning and sensor detection are already well set in the device itself. Plug in, fill, and the bin does the rest. Would you rather watch along via the app, adjust settings or receive notifications? Then you can simply connect the Poopy Nano 2 to wifi and activate the app. This way you always have insight into usage, you can start a cleaning remotely. Whether you love technology or prefer as little fuss as possible, the Poopy Nano 2 adapts to your preferences. You decide how smartly you use it.

Yes, you can. The Poopy Nano 2 has an option to disable or manually activate the automatic cleaning feature. This is especially useful if your cat is still getting used to the bin or if you want temporary full control over when the bin cleans. Manual mode is easily activated via a button on the control panel. When you are ready to switch back to automatic cleaning, you switch it back on just as easily. This flexibility is ideal for cats who are more cautious or quicker to be impressed by new devices. You set the pace.

Yes, the Poopy Nano 2 is light and compact enough to move, but sturdy enough to stay in place while in use. If you want to move the container to another room, simply unplug it, pick it up, and put it in the new location. Be sure to always place it on a flat surface and close to an electrical outlet. It is also important to check again that the environment is suitable - dry, well ventilated and not in direct sunlight. The fact that you can easily move the bin without complicated installation also makes it suitable for people who change rooms frequently - for example, during a move or redecoration.

The Poopy Nano 2 has a minimalist and intuitive control panel with two buttons and two status lights. The controls are designed so you can fully control the litter box without an app or complicated menu - everything you need is on the front. The two buttons are the cleaning button and the wifi button. With the cleaning button you manually start a cleaning cycle. Use the wifi button to connect the litter box to your wifi network to link it to the app. for updates or additional features. Above these buttons are two bright LED lights that display the status of the litter box. White light above the cleaning button. The litter box is in idle mode and ready for use. Red light above the cleaning button means that pressure is applied to the Poopy (when the cat is in the bin) or that the bin has a malfunction, such as if the cleaning process has been interrupted. Blue light above the wifi button means the Poopy is successfully connected to wifi. This combination of buttons and light signals makes it very easy to check the status of the bin at a glance. No screens, no menus, no fuss - just clear signals that tell you immediately if everything is functioning properly or if something needs attention. The system is deliberately designed to provide maximum ease of use and minimum confusion. Even if you've never read a manual, you can tell within seconds if the bin is ready, connected to wifi, or needs some attention.

The Poopy Nano 2 can be used by an unlimited number of cats. There is no maximum - the device is designed to automatically clean after each use, no matter how many cats use it. If you have multiple cats, you will need to empty the catch basin a little more often than with one cat. But other than that, you don't have to adjust anything. The sensors do not differentiate between cats; they simply recognize whether the bin has been in use and then start the cleaning process. So for families with multiple cats, the Poopy Nano 2 is an ideal choice. It keeps itself clean no matter how busy it gets.

When you unplug the Poopy Nano 2, the system shuts down completely. The bin stops cleaning and all functions are paused. As soon as you plug it back in, the Poopy Nano 2 automatically restores its previous settings and is immediately ready to use again. So you don't have to reset it or start it up manually. This makes the system not only user-friendly, but also reliable in case of power outages or during relocation.

The Poopy Nano 2 is designed to work with a 2.4 GHz wifi network, which is the most common type in households. The litter box is not compatible with 5 GHz wifi. If you have a dual-band router (with both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), make sure you select the correct network, usually the wifi network without "5G" in the name. The Poopy Nano 2 also works fine without wifi. All basic functions, such as automatic cleaning, manual cleaning and status notifications via the lights, continue to function as usual. Wifi is optional, and is only used for additional functionalities such as receiving firmware updates or linking to the Poopy (if available). What won't work is connecting via a mobile hotspot or 5G network from your phone. The Poopy Nano 2 needs a stable and constant connection to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network in your home. A temporary hotspot is not suitable for this purpose, as it does not provide a reliable connection and often disconnects automatically after a short period of time. If you have Wi-Fi at home, connecting is very easy via the Wi-Fi button on the box. Don't have Wi-Fi? No problem – the box will continue to do its job, just without smart functions.

Yes, you can! As long as the Poopy Nano 2 is connected to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network at home, you can control it from anywhere in the world with the app. So you don't have to be connected to the same wifi network yourself. Whether you are at work, a weekend away or even on vacation, you can always follow along and adjust settings. Note! Only during the first installation, your phone must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the Poopy. After that, everything works completely remotely.

Yes, you can. The Poopy Nano 2 can be used on multiple phones at the same time, but this only works if you log into both devices with the same Tuya account. This is because the Poopy links to one account and cannot be operated by two separate accounts at the same time. Practical example Do you want both you and your partner to be able to control the Poopy through the app? Then you both log in with the same login credentials. That way you both have full access to all of the Poopy's features and notifications.

The deluxe drinking fountain you receive with the Poopy Nano 2 is designed to naturally encourage cats to drink more water. Flowing water is more appealing to cats than stagnant water in a box, and it helps keep kidneys healthy - especially important in older cats or cats that eat dry food. The fountain is quiet, energy efficient and easy to assemble. All you have to do is fill it with water and plug it in. Thanks to the built-in filtration system, the water stays cleaner longer, contributing to your cat's overall health.

To maintain optimal water quality, we recommend replacing the drinking fountain filter every 3 to 4 weeks. With intensive use or with multiple cats, it is wise to do this a little more often. A clean filter ensures that the water stays clear, free of hair, dirt or food particles, and prevents bacteria from building up. Changing the filter regularly is therefore important not only for the taste of the water, but also for the health of your cat. Filters are available as individual sets through our web shop. We recommend that you always have a set in stock, so you never run out.

Simply place the included cat litter mat in front of the opening of the Poopy Nano 2. The mat is made of soft but durable material that effectively traps cat litter when your cat steps out of the litter box. The structure allows grains to fall between the layers, so you can easily throw them back into the bin or discard them later. This keeps your floor clean and reduces the need for vacuuming. The underside has a non-slip coating so the mat stays firmly in place. For cleaning, just shake the mat empty or rinse it under the tap - simple and quick.
